Client Testimonials: Beating the sun

The South African sun can be deadly. Not only can it be unbearably hot but damage due to UV rays can be extensive. A Pretoria resident had this problem - curtains faded and expensive leather couches were burnt. He called on RB Blinds to suggest a solution.

Problem

The problem is the location of windows on a first floor living space housing an expensive hi-fi system. The large windows facing east draw summer sun until about noon. By that time the place is baking hot and even air conditioning does not help.

Solution

The solution was to install plain aluminium blinds (gold coloured, horizontal) and behind that a Solar Screen. This combination offers many advantages:

The Solar Screen can be lowered to keep out the sun without keeping out too much light;
The blinds can be kept open to allow one to see outside; and
The blinds can be closed to darken the room for home theater use without lowering the Solar Screen. Being able to control the degree of shade is often a problem with home theater owners.

The total cost for two windows, some 1.8 meters wide and 1.4 meters high was about R4000.00. It looks very classy and is extremely functional. The heat is no longer a problem and the furniture has been given a new lease on life.
